Just wondering why nowhere seems to sell the white (i think Nikon maybe calls them grey) Nikkor lenses anymore.
Have they been discontinued ? :(
The real advantage of the white colour was to prevent the lens getting hot in the sun was it not ? Seems like a good idea, but i suppose Nikon must have had a valid reason for not making them (if that is the case ?)
Anyway, if anyone knows anything about the whereabouts of all the white Nikon lenses (particuly the 70-200) :thumbup:I ordered my 70-200VR directly from Nikon (I was a Ritz employee) and they told me the white one would be tough to get. I wanted one at the time and I think if Nikon tol me that you will have a tough time getting one.
What are prices like ordering straight from Nikon ?
Lenscoat?
Good idea, i'll have to see what fancy effects they do. There should be a little 'Pimp My Lens' section on photography shop websites with all sorts of accessory like this !
You're not thinking practically. Sure a white lens may look cool now, but when you're trying to stalk a girl at night while wearing a ninja costume, the white lens will give away your position.
 What an obvious point to miss ! ;)I ordered my 70-200VR directly from Nikon (I was a Ritz employee) and they told me the white one would be tough to get. I wanted one at the time and I think if Nikon tol me that you will have a tough time getting one.get black..and paint em white...or pink...or orange...or teal...
can you paint? ahahI've seen a few go up on ebay and they end up selling for a few hundred more than their black counterparts. I personally don't think white paint is worth $300, but apparently some people want themselves and their $3k body and lens to catch as much attention as possible. It'll just look that much nicer to a thief imo.I would buy a used, cheap lens to try some paint out on before making the jump to painting an expensive lens. I'm sure you could find a used, crappy lens for like, $100 or less and that would be worth it if it meant saving yourself a thousand plus in damages. It's your call though. If you do paint a lens, or if anyone does, totally throw up some pictures. I'd like a good laugh.interestingly many Canon users really dislike the white lenses, whereas many Nikonians would like to have them white ;)
I like them white though.
Yeah ! It's funny that. I think white looks nice (but i am partial to white things), but then again black looks pretty suave. Don't know really !! Mind you, i wouldn't turn down a new lens whatever the colour
What would be really cool would be a white camera body with a white lens!!
Yep, too right ! :lovey:I've seen them on the B&H site, they might have been imported though.Thank you all for the replies.
Just to defend myself, the reason for not checking B&H first was because i'm from the UK (you might have wondered why i failed to see them there !) :)
Hmm, wonder why they're all import models though. Oh well, the only thing that attracts me to the white coloured ones is the aesthetics, no practical reason hehe ! :D
No white lenses for us nikon users for the time being then :'(Hehe don't worry, i don't think i'd use poster paint :D
Properly done it would be amazing, but a pricey process i'd bet. If you do ever bite the bullet and decided to give any of your glass a makeover, do post pics ;)
Can't find any pics offhand, but aparently somebody has a white 1Ds body :drool:I did have a fella who saw me setup with a D1X and a 400 3.5 ask me "OMG, is that a Cannon?" I told him no, just my heavy artillery.
Besides, why in God's green earth would I want anyone to think my D3 is a Canon?
Lucky for some !:DThe idea behind Nikkor white was to reduce heat absorption. They didn't sell. Then a case manufacturer tested gadget bag colors and found black cases didn't heat up and faster than other colors in there line. Pelican also tested black/gray and also found no significant difference. Besides, why in God's green earth would I want anyone to think my D3 is a Canon? Can't think of reason one! I did have a fella who saw me setup with a D1X and a 400 3.5 ask me "OMG, is that a Cannon?" I told him no, just my heavy artillery.Lenscoat?I personally wouldnt own any equipment that is white. Im out in the woods and, such. So it would be black or whatever color soon enough. That and I would have to spend more time dusting off for appearances than shooting.Any color you want... apparently. (http://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=186&cat=38&bestseller)Well I was a Ritz camera employe at the time so I got a nice discount I paid I think $1100 for the 70-200VR 2.8. Nikon and most other manufacturers for that matter will not sell to the general public. They do not want to undercut their distributors.
$1100 wow  That's an amazing price. Shops over here generally ask £1100 - £1300 (which i believe is about $2100 - $2500) :(What would be really cool would be a white camera body with a white lens!!
My fiance wants this very same camera, whatever it is.My fiance wants this very same camera, whatever it is.
I think this is the closest you'll get :-P

ahhh, yet another wannabe canon-user ;)As much as i'd love the bragging rights and appeal of having a pink lens, i just don't think i could stomach taking the poster paints to a nice new 70-200 :D
If i ever get one (which is a huge 'if' !) it would probably the most expensive single piece of photography equipment i'd own  and i can't help thinking that i'd live to regret painting it pink ;)
I wouldn't use poster paints either. Someone who does that should be shot.
Automotive paint, I meant. Sanded, prepped properly...you'd have a very impressive lens.
It would be hard though, without taking it apart...then you'll never get it back together...and Canon is not likely to do the repairs...
I'd love a pink "L"ahhh, yet another wannabe canon-user ;)
:blushing: I only went and forgot to check Nikon did white lenses before i shelled out for the body ! :lol:ahhh, yet another wannabe canon-user ;)
interestingly many Canon users really dislike the white lenses, whereas many Nikonians would like to have them white ;)

I have the black Sigma 70-200 2.8 for my camera, but I suppose if I had a 70-200 2.8 IS (Canon) I'd sure love white! You're not thinking practically. Sure a white lens may look cool now, but when you're trying to stalk a girl at night while wearing a ninja costume, the white lens will give away your position.
HAHA:lol:
Yea that is a dead giveaway! The only ones I've seen of late have been on back-order, or they've been out of stock imports. Good luck finding one.White lenses just make you a target
I personally would rather see the show than be the show. ;)I'm a canon user with a White 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS lens...The lens is beautiful don't get me wrong...but it is hard to "blend in" at an event with a camera lens that is white. When at a wedding everyone sees you no matter what, when I have my black lens it's a little less inconspicuous. It's really a love hate relationship with the white lens. What would be really cool would be a white camera body with a white lens!!
If I can find the picture I will post it. It was a Rebel if I remember correctly.I've seen a few on bhphotovideo.comWhat are prices like ordering straight from Nikon ?
