We just planted some Tulips and crocus in our back yard (kinda late i know) we mulched over the top of them, Should we water them tonight? Its supposed to get down to about 34*F tonight, 55* ish tomorrow afternoon, then 28* that night.. is it too cold to water? or is it better to water before it gets cold? Should we have watered before we put the mulch down? Sorry we've never done this before :) We live in Zone 6 or 7.. not really sure different websites tell us different zones so i think were kinda in the middle. Should we water? or is there anything else we need to do to them before spring? Thanks!yes as tulip bulbs need the cold weather , i would say no as the mulch will keep the soil cool, they thrive in the autumn and winter coditionsplease do not water them, cause you don't want them to rot before full winter start..the snow is all they need trust me,I have some in my yard five years now,and my mom has hers about twenty years too, they are fine..just forget about them for now, look for them in the spring ok.. It is okay to water your bulbs. Crocus and tulip bulbs have to go through a cold cycle (winter) in order to bloom in the spring. Think about it, it's going to rain throughout the winter, so it's not going to be too cold for them. They need it.
Btw, you didn't plant too late. For zones 6 & 7 ( i live in zone 7) anytime from September thru November is ok to plant. Just so you know, the crocuses will be the first flowers to come up and bloom (late Feb/early March).
Don't worry about the mulch. They'll get the moisture they need from the rain later on. Let nature do the rest. Good luck!#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
