Tornado Watch just issued for many areas in Kansas along the front. CU starting to form in the vicinity of the front from SW to NE. I am currently in Garden City, KS awaiting storm initiation; may shift my location a bit after I grab some food. Good luck everyone! :)Originally posted by Alexander Wall
Tornado warning for that storm east of Russell, KS, just north of I-70.
A friend on the ground there SW of the storm is getting hail (quarter size). He can't see below the storm. Says if there's something there, it's wrapped in rain. The dbz has gone up 7 dbz in ten minutes.
Anyone else have a better view of the storm?

Sounds like someone was SERIOUSLY out of position. Ourselves and about a hundred other chasers had an awesome view sitting along I70 of the base and rotation. My crew is in Hays ready to jet when things fire (mainly bec. they get good cell coverage on I70). My target is still the hwy96 corridor around Ness City. VERY strong moisture convergence accompanied by surface boundary in the vicinity plus backed surface flow in Great Bend lead me to call Ness City as my target. Good luck to all!
http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/model/sfc_ict_mcli.gifI know you chasers are busy in KS, but we have severe storm warnings in NE and IA. Currently four warnings in IA and two in NE are out. One spotter reported quarter size hail south of Lincoln, NE. You may be getting all of the hot action in KS. Here in NE it's a little stormy, but a nice quiet rain.
8) LJK.How am I viewing them - the dbz?
I'm reading them on weathertap. The radar images have a max dbz, and color vs dbz scale as well. Also, in RadarLab, it has the dbz of each cell. Excellent stuff.
iaflyerWe're in Russell, KS and have initiation right now right over our heads. 4:15 CSTMy first thought was Amos, but he reports being in Russell, an hour and a half away. Never know though. Anyway, I won't stray off topic anymore. If anyone knows though, let me know. My mother would get a kick out of me finding out for her....she's easily amused
TimOne way of saving a image of the computer screen when it's showing an image you want is to use the Print Screen key. On some keyboard it's called PRT SCR - top right of the keyboard.
After you push the button, go open the Microsoft Paint program (Start/programs/Accessories). Then "Paste" the image (Edit/Paste). The entire screen will be there. A bit involved, I know, but it works.
Then you can crop the image and save it in a variety of format. (BMP takes a lot of space, btw)
Good luck - iaflyerI was wondering if their is a way to save radar images & animations from weather tap radar lab?You talkin to me Dan? If so Im just using thr IE webpage link browser. I try to right click then save as but it doesnt have that option.Severe Weather Event is over, removed information.

Talked to mom on the phone awhile ago, she said there were chasers in Ness City (home) this afternoon. The had Indiana plates, who was this?
I know this isn't a NOW, but I'm curious now
Tim
Amos Magliocco has Indiana plates. But, I'm guessing there are other chasers from Indiana out there today.I know this is the KS thread but I had to mention that tornado warned Cell SE of Colorado Springs, CO looks really nice and is moving towards the SE.I was talking to Jason. I guess we posted at the same time and you beat me. :wink:How are you viewing them? You don't need access to view the SRV images.ya that cell is really nice in CO, im not sure if anyone is on it, but I think I remember a few saying they were chasing in CO today.Talked to mom on the phone awhile ago, she said there were chasers in Ness City (home) this afternoon. iaflyermy crew dropped south to ness city but none of those cells could get going. they are now caravaning with tim samaras to the russell storm which looks like it could turn out to be the only show for the day? maybe i'm glad i worked today after all..... :xThanks to Walker Ashley my chase page has all of the above but in a graphical format with maps.

I've used this many times while chasing. NOTE: you need weathertap acct. to access radarIm nowcasting for Kenneth McCallister who is on the Russel storm at this time. He has seen some lowerings and a broad large but brief wall cloud.
I was going to try to save some images for him on Weathertap but im not wuite sure how to. Anyone got an idea?
JayI was just going to write about that cell Jason. Looks better to me than the cell currently over Russell KS on radar. Anyone know of anybody chasing out there today? I'm sure Roger Hill is in Kansas with silverlining.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
