mysql error: MySQL server has gone away

    mysql error number: 2006

Date: Wednesday 13th of August 2003 12:21:47 PM
    Script: http://ptsem.presidentsearch.org/bbs/bbs/newthread.php
    Referer: http://ptsem.presidentsearch.org:81/bbs/newthread.php?action=newthread&forumid=15

  • Well, I basically copyied the file C:mysqlmy-huge.cnf to c:my.cnf, stopped and started the service, and everything is fine now!

Thanks for the help and prompt service!

I had the exact same problem today, although, I swear this has only begun happening since upgrading to 2.3.2 (ok, I don't swear that I don't know that I've put attachments up over 1MB before).... ;) ;)

anyhow, for others that stumble across this thread you can change this setting from the WinMySQLAdmin "application" by opening it, clicking on the "my.ini setup" tab, and adding the following line into the text box:

    set-variable=max_allowed_packet=12345125

of course, change this # to be the proper # of bytes you'd like it to accept. save the changes then stop/start the service and you're golden.

  • So, I can't figure out how to change the max_allowed_packet.

It seems I would change the my.cnf file, but there isn't one on my system (w2k).

  • Max Packet size is more likely 1mb which is the default, though you'd have to check.

    I did that earlier today.

do a search on your server and try and find a my.ini or my.cnf it could be i system folder, if not you need to create a my.cnf file at c:my.cnf

  • Go into PhpMyAdmin and type:

    REPAIR TABLE attachment

Or upload repair.php to your admin directory and run it.

    Thanks, but no dice.

    SQL-query

SQL-query : [Edit] [Create PHP Code]
    REPAIR TABLE attachment

    Table Op Msg_type Msg_text
    ptssearch.attachment repair status OK

    I get the same error.

  • What webserver are you running?

Both the web server and the mysql server are plain vanilla w2k/iis.

  • is in fact 10485576 - i was able to find it. However, how do I change it?

(forgive my total ignorance!) In the mean time I'm searching for the answer. Thanks -- Bill
