How to save the environment by switching from wheat to rice?

Posted by webmaster under enart.hubeidaxue.com

  • how will this help us in this economic crisis

  • best practice at the moment seems to be both; wheat in dry season and rice in wet season, rotated. some famous japanese chap invented it, sorry cant remember his name, one of the fathers of permaculture.

  • Probably not at all. Growing conditions for the two crops are not very similar, so we can't switch a field from one to the other.

  • This isn´t such a good idea unless the rice is a dry culture which is nowadays not often the case.

The production of irrigated rice releases a lot of methane (CH4), so it is generally more greenhouse gases intensive than wheat. Wheat however is cultivated using fertilizers which release N2O, another greenhouse gas. A study would be needed to find what exactly is the best solution.
