Details required from Coders please.

  • Hi, sorry to post this but we really in a little bit of a situation, and needed some guidance from the coders.

    We paid for a script to use as a database, its uses vb 3.07 to pull in permission masks and user infomation from what used to be the db_mysql.php

    The new 3.5 vb no longer uses this file, what is the new file sql data kept ?

    Another question is if we can not get the script to run along side vb 3.5, how easy would it be to .......

    Run 2 forums on same domain and make the first forum the default forum for joining, and the second forum just to pull the members info and permission accorss to the second forum, and still have it own contents still.

    To give us the end result of forum 1 totally stand alone, and forum 2 all posts and content different, but use same member name, password, the permission groups accross , so we can use it as a download area.

  • Thanks for the details, we maybe lucky to get our scriot working, but i got a feeling i gonna need to find another way to protect a database from non members, without using a general password, maybe cookie based could work.


  • The new database abstraction layer is found in includes/class_core.php (it's the first class definition).

    And your second thing could probably be done by running a cron job every 15-30 minutes (or an hour if your site isn't too busy) that syncs the two together. However some hacking would have to be done on the user management/edit user options pages because if the password or email changed on one, you'd have to change it on the other (if you cared about that).
